This database contains an index to U.S. Marine Corps muster rolls from 1798-1958. For another layer of defense, eight sextuple Mark 36 Super Rapid Bloom Offboard Countermeasures Chaff and Decoy Launching Systems were installed. During the 1950s, a version of the W19 nuclear artillery shell was developed specifically for the 16-inch guns, making them the worlds largest nuclear artillery, and making the Iowa-class battleships the only US Navy ships ever to have nuclear projectiles designed for them. Nishimura encountered torpedo-firing PT boats, and then faced massed torpedo attacks by destroyers.
